Every encounter with this colorful hopper in the Risaralda region of Colombia felt unreal—like finding a living piece of treasure. They belong to an ancient lineage of insects that still feeds mainly on primitive plants like ferns. They look as if they were hand-painted with the most vibrant colors, and I could have watched them for as long as time—or this little creature—would allow. It was an unforgettable reminder of just how wonderfully creative nature can be!
